Pastor Loses Job After Supporting Rob Bell
Pastor Chad Holtz lost his job at Marrow’s Chapel United Methodist Church in North Carolina when he wrote a note on his Facebook page supporting a new book by Rob Bell and his, shall we say, non-traditional view of Hell. Two days later, after members of his church complained about Holtz’s views on Hell, he was dismissed from his position as senior pastor.
To the media, Holtz has this to say about his dismissal, “I think justice comes and judgment will happen, but I don’t think that means an eternity of torment. But I can understand why people in my church aren’t ready to leave that behind. It’s something I’m still grappling with myself.”
One thing is clear, Rob Bell’s new book “Love Wins” is very controversial, but it also, I pray, will lead to numerous conversations between Christians and non-Chriatians in which the true Gospel of Jesus will be clearly communicated. Jesus didn’t come to make peace on earth and spread love. He came to make war on a world hostile to God and lost without intervention - Jesus is that intervention.
